Boulder Biodiesel Co-operative

"The Boulder Biodiesel Cooperative makes fuel from vegetable oils that can be used in any diesel engine without any modification of the vehicle. This can have a tremendous beneficial influence in the transportation sector by reducing our dependence on foreign oil and reducing our contribution to global warming and air pollution. If you own a diesel vehicle, or know someone who does, please get in touch with us and we can help you get the veggie fuel. We are currently developing processors of various sizes for individual, cooperative, or industrial use. We can design and build a processor that matches your needs and you can learn how to make your own vegetable-based diesel fuel!"

Pioneer Valley Biodiesel Co-op

The Pioneer Valley Biodiesel Co-op was formed in April, 2001 in Greenfield Massachusetts. Our Mission Statement: "Our purpose is to help in transforming our petroleum-based economy, with all its associated socioeconomic and environmental problems, toward one based on sustainable, clean, locally and cooperatively produced fuel, promoted, produced, and distributed in a manner that will serve and strengthen our community."

Mission: How will the cooperative accomplish this vision?

  • Promoting the use of biodiesel fuel in place of petroleum-derived diesel fuel and No. 2 fuel oil.
  • Building demand for biodiesel in the Pioneer Valley through education, outreach and marketing
  • Providing a regular and reliable supply of biodiesel fuel to our members and the local community.
  • Supporting the local production of biodiesel from vegetable oil

PVBC is currently in the process of incorporating as a Co-Op. PVBC is active in distribution of biodiesel and promoting its use. PVBC makes biodiesel available through CO-Op Plus, of Holyoke, MA (413) 538-8000. Co-Op Plus is the regional distributor of biodiesel, both as B-20 and B-100.

The PVBC has developed an extensive business plan for a 250,000 GPY biodiesel production facility in Western Massachusetts. We are currently raising the necessary funding for the launch of this project early next year.

PVBC can be reached at 413 247-0163. Our fax number is 413 247-3153. We can also be reached at biodieselcoopaol.com

PVBC holds biweekly meetings, open to the public.

Portland's Biodiesel Co-op

Located in Portland OR. "The co-op was formed to:
Promote the use of biodiesel as a clean, efficient, American grown, alternative fuel

Reclaim waste vegetable oil from local restaurants and process it into usable biodiesel
Distribute clean, high-quality biodiesel to our members
Act as a source of information for other biodiesel co-ops
Provide links to other alternative forms of fuel such as straight vegetable oil, fuel cell, and ethanol"

The Berkeley Biodiesel Collective

The Berkeley Biodiesel Collective's mission is threefold: produce quality non-petroleum Biodiesel from waste vegetable oil and ethanol as a producer/consumer collective (by necessity restricted to local people), to train the Diesel owning public in the methods of Biodiesel production, and to educate the general public about the problems with petroleum and the benefits of renewable fuels.

(It should be noted that at this time, we use methanol, and are not yet certain that it is feasible to make ethanol biodiesel in our coop, due to batch inconsistency.)

SoCo Biodiesel Co-op

The SoCo Biodiesel Co-op is a new community-based organization whose mission is to promote, produce, and provide vegetable-oil based fuel. The co-op's central goals are to educate the public and policy-makers regarding biofuels--specifically biodiesel; foster cooperative ventures in this field; and to encourage and facilitate the transition from fossil fuels to renewable fuels. We are a nonprofit project of New College of California.

The group is located in Sonoma County, California and is open to new members. We have completed our commercial biodiesel bulk buy depot and it is open to co-op members for their fueling needs. Stage two is to build a small scale processor for members to manufacture their own biodiesel

The co-op holds general business meetings about once a month. These are open to public. In the first half hour of these meetings, new people will have the opportunity to introduce themselves and/or get some questions answered or pick up biofuels literature.

The Biofuels Research Co-operative

This group is located in Sebastopol California and is open to new members living in Sonoma county. We are finishing our infrastructure for collection and distribution of vegetable oil for people with vehicles converted to run on straight, unmodified vegetable oil (SVO).
